Watched an on-line interview of the chair of the DaytonHamvention which will be held the 3rd weekend in May. Thisfellow is 1) an electrical engineer and 2) a family doctor.
He is expecting no problems with attendance at the Hamvention because,’The vaccine will be widely available to anyone that wants it inApril.’ Soooo.. if the doctor is right, which Iconsider highly likely, the greatest portion of our SCCA National Rallyseries will be good to go.
Listening carefully to the radio this morning, the commentator said thatthe infections amongst those in the vaccine trials showed widespreadimmunity after the 1st shot. So, we don’t have to wait 2weeks after the 2nd shot that is 3 weeks after the 1st shot which islikely 2 - 3 weeks away (for those of us that are particularly vulnerableincluding ’over 65’ as well as doctors, nurses, cops, firefighters, ambulance crews) and then the follow-on vaccine productionwill be fully ramped up by April.
Of course that interview was yesterday, but today the radio says that oneof the providers has 50 million doses of their vaccine instead of 20milliion, plus the other folks 20 million, for a total fo 70 million, enough for 35 million people, most probably all available inDecember.
Plus, further news this moring is that Johnson and Johnson may be aboutto pop out a vaccine of their own. If it is another messenger RNAstyle vaccine, it may also be 95% effective. Then theearly-available doses may bring widespread availability even earlier thanApril.
PLUS, an article in a science discussion website called slashdot has aspeculatiion that the immunity to this damned virus, once acquired, maybe very long lasting, as in ’years.’ That’s alsosome good news. Story:
https://science.slashdot.org/story/20/11/18/1938215/immunity-to-the-coronavirus-may-last-years-new-data-hint
Bottom like is that the 2021 rally season may be close to normal fairlyearly in the year.

We could start requiring badges.Red ones mean danger! I suppose we would need proof of vaccination atregistration too. On Nov 17, 2020, at 12:10 PM,David Head <rally2xs@..> wrote:
With our high population of anicents in rallying, then when someyounger, unvaccinated folks show up, we can maybe still have our gettogethers by seating 1 unvaccinated with 3 vaccinated, and ensure socialdistancing between tables. Maybe doable. Thegetting together thing is some of the most pleasant things about Nationalrallying.

The President has been saying ’very shortly’ and’weeks’ for quite some time, and Pfizer has said they are goingto go for emergency approval at the end of November (less than 2weeks.) After that, it will be the FDA approving, with Trump’s footup their ass if they think they are going to dawdle while 1000 people aday are buying the farm from this damned virus.
and since it takes two shots 30days apart,What I’ ve="" heard="" in="" news="" reports="" is="" 21="">
we aren’ t="" likely="" to="" be="" asafe="" subpopulation="" until="" midsummer="" at="" the="">
If I can get it into my arm in the 2nd week of December, the 2nd shotshould be approx 1 Jan, and I should be doing table poker at the localbar again by mid-January
It is anticipated that each ofthe manufacturers will have nearly 100 million doses around the first ofthe yearThe initial delivery for December is 20 million from Pfizer, and Ihaven’ t="" heard="" about="" moderna="" but="" assume="" it="" is="" probably="" also="" 20="" millionsince="" they="" are="" part="" of="" operation="" warp="" speed.="">
Anyway, that’s 40 million doses.
Doctors will get it first, probably. There’s about 900,000doctors.
Nurses also, there’s about 3.8 milion of them
Cops - there’s 900,000 of them.
1st responders like ambulance / fire - I don’t know, assume about thesize of the police, so another 900,000 as a scientific wild-ass guess(SWAG.)
Then there’s 49 million ’over 65’s.’ Not as dire asmight be thought, ’cuz a significant number of them will refuse thevaccine just because they’re cantankerous Americans. I won’tbe one of those, I will be 1st in line.
. With two manufacturersand needing two doses, that means only 100 million people are going toget immunized, and that is likely to be worldwide.Those 20 million per manufacturer are OUR vaccine, paid for by OperationWarp Speed. Astrazenica, who should be coming later in thepipeline, was paid by the US gov’ t="" to="" produce="" 2="" billion="" doses,="" and="" todeliver="" 300="" million="" to="" the="" us.="" there’s="" almost="" 8="" billionpeople="" in="" the="" world,="" so="" the="" world="" is="" going="" to="" have="" to="" work="" out="" therest.="" but="" i’m="" sure="" they="">
Government is going toprioritize who gets immunized. I think that it is reasonable topresume the list is going to be:1.   Health care providers2.   First responders; i.e. police and fire3.   Active military4.   Educators5.   Elderly with health issues and care providers(might include some of us)6.   The general population starting with the eldestand working down. Then there are the issues with a worldwide shortage of borosilicate glassthat is required for the vials that will carry the vaccine fordistribution; If you watch the interview with the general that is sheparding thevaccine to market in the 60 minutes interview last Sunday, he mentionedno problems with any supplies, and said, when asked how long it wouldtake him to move the vaccine to market, ’ 24="" hours.’="" thisis="" the="" us="" military,="" and="" this="" is="" a="" war,="" so="" you="" wouldn’t="" want="" to="" be="" thevirus="" when="" that="" goes="" down.="" the="" virus="" is="" going="" to="" be="" on="" the="" losingside="" in="" this="">
See the 60 minutes segment here: https://www.cbs.com/shows/60_minutes/video/g5eZaC1o4AnUoONvOipkgVpCEM8FukNF/operation-warp-speed-planning-the-distribution-of-a-future-covid-19-vaccine/
a projected worldwidecapacity to make maybe 5 billion doses per year (which means 3 years tocover the entire world); and the fact that the vaccines must be kept atvery cold (i.e. well below 0 degrees Centigrade) until used (and aworldwide shortage of refrigeration).Pfizer’ s="" vaccine="" requires="" nearly="" 80c="" below,="" but="" it’s="" not="" a="" problem.="" it’s="" called="" ’dry="">
Moderna’s vaccine is ordinary freezer temperatures.
All of which means the rolloutof immunizations is probably going to be slow.Don’ t="" think="" so.="" again,="" this="" is="" the="" us="" military="" fighting="" awar.="" there="" is="" pretty="" massive="" ability="" to="" make="" vaccine,too.="" it="" no="" longer="" requires="" chicken="" eggs.="">
And I haven’ t="" even="" mentioned="" thepotential="" complications="" caused="" by="" a="" disputed="" transfer="">
I’m hoping to be immune before that happens! <G>
My guess is that we won’ t="" seevaccinations="" at="" the="" fifth="" level="" until="" april="" at="" the="" earliest,="" which="" meansthat="" we="" won’t="" have="" immunity="" until="">
Typical immunity is 2 weeks after a vaccination. We get it inApril, as Apri 1, 2nd shot in week 3, immunity in 1st week of May. But as being ancients, we’re probably going to get it in 2 - 3weeks.
 I dont’ suggest="" holdingyour="">
I don’t think I’m going to have to.
